COLLABORATION- SCOUTING THE EXHIBITION LOCATION

Today I went with the other collaborators to go do a reeky of the space. As what I will be contributing to the exhibition will be a set design it is incredibly important for me to see what I am working with in order to know how much foliage and material I will need. It is also a good chance for me and the other artist to discuss how the prep for the exhibition is going any voice any ideas or concerns that have come to light.

The space itself has been found by tuilia who’s parents own a bath show house in the heart of central. Without her this exhibition would have been incredibly hard to put on and her parents have generously allowed us to use the space rent free. The location of the venue is incredibly important to keep a secret as the visitors have to go on a pilgarmidge to find it.

This is the space that I have been given to transform. We deiced that we didn’t need the upper level of the show house so my set will enable us to block off the space with curtains and create a smaller passage for the visitors to explore

Upon arriving to the space I immediately knew what I wanted to do. I realised that I had enough foliage as the space wasn’t as big as I expected but I still want to find more items such as mushrooms and moss. Me and the other artist walked through this spaces and shared ideas of what would look good and how to combat challenges such as the lighting and the curtain. Luckily the lighting person for the show Alistair was in the space at the time so me and him ran through ideas about how to light the space. We decided upon using small push lights which are battery powered as we wanted a low lighting look. We all collectively agreed that we wanted a smoke machine too, but upon my suggestion that it could be detrimental to some people who are asthmatic and also the cost of renting a smoke machine is very high we have put it on hold for now.
Here is the sketch I came up with in the space.
